Aarx Energy, a licensed Polish electricity trading company, has launched an integrated service for the optimisation of battery energy storage systems (BESS), both standalone and combined with renewable generation. The service has been developed in cooperation with The Mobility House Energy from Germany and Electrohold Trade from Bulgaria. Both companies already optimise large storage portfolios in Bulgaria, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

One partner for the entire value chain

Within the cooperation, Aarx Energy provides Polish market access, trading execution and balance responsibility (BRP), while the partnership brings together the technology, expertise and infrastructure required to deliver balancing services following PSE prequalification. The Mobility House Energy provides its proprietary trading platform, and Electrohold Trade contributes credit support as well as the experience of a company that operates its own large battery portfolio. Investors receive the full scope of services from one source: connection of the asset, prequalification with PSE, trading around the clock, balance responsibility, settlement and commercial structures accepted by financing banks. As Aarx Energy already holds a trading licence and is actively trading in Poland, customer’s market access is available from the first day of operation.

“The Polish energy storage market is entering a new phase. The first large facilities are starting commercial operation, and this extensive practical experience with battery degradation, warranty conditions, grid constraints and hybrid asset optimisation provides a strong foundation for delivering similar solutions in Poland. This requires a partner who holds a licence in Poland, takes over balance responsibility and knows the procedures of PSE well. Together with The Mobility House Energy and Electrohold Trade, we offer investors exactly this, combined with technology that has proven itself in other European markets. Every project is different, which is why we prepare the strategy according to the goals and risk profile of each owner and show transparently what the client’s facility earns and why”, says Arkadiusz Zieleźny, Chief Executive Officer of Aarx Energy.

Experience of an owner and operator of storage assets

An important element of the offer is the practical experience of Electrohold Trade. The company operates and trades its own portfolio of battery storage in Bulgaria, both as standalone facilities and together with solar parks, and optimises it on the platform of The Mobility House Energy. This practical experience with battery degradation, warranty conditions, grid constraints and hybrid asset optimisation provides a strong foundation for delivering similar solutions in Poland, where more and more storage facilities are being added to existing solar parks within cable pooling.

Trading on all Polish markets

The storage facilities are traded around the clock on all available markets: the day ahead and intraday markets as well as the balancing capacity and balancing energy markets of the transmission system operator PSE (FCR, aFRR, mFRR). For facilities holding a capacity market contract, trading is carried out in coordination with the capacity obligations, so that these obligations are always fulfilled. The optimisation algorithm evaluates market opportunities on a continuous basis and plans charging, discharging and the allocation of capacity in every market time unit. Technical and grid restrictions, battery degradation, cycle limits and the conditions of the manufacturer’s warranty are taken into account. For projects combining storage with photovoltaics, generation and storage are managed within one common strategy which considers forecasts, market positions and the shared grid connection.

Transparent performance against an independent benchmark

Together with an independent third party provider, The Mobility House Energy measures trading results against an independently audited digital twin of each specific storage facility. The twin reflects the technical and grid restrictions of the asset and simulates realistic revenues on the basis of real market data. In open book reporting, owners see how actual trading compares with what their asset should earn, and the benchmark may serve as the basis for a contractual performance commitment. In live operation, The Mobility House Energy has outperformed the index by around 8%. The benchmark is already available in several European markets and will be introduced for Polish assets in 2027.

“Our technology has helped battery owners across Europe earn more from their assets. Today we optimise more than 1.2 GW of standalone and co-located storage in combination with PV. In every market we have seen the same thing: the value of a battery depends on making the right decision at the right moment, quickly and precisely. Polish owners will face the same challenge, in a market with capacity obligations, new balancing products and a large number of solar parks. Through this service they gain access to technology that has proven successful on large portfolios in other countries, combined with a partner who knows the Polish market very well”, says Peter Dworak, Chief Executive Officer of The Mobility House Energy.

“In Bulgaria we manage more than 4 GWh of battery storage in 40 locations, one of the largest portfolios of this kind in Europe. Over the past years we have dealt with many optimisation challenges and with changing market conditions, and we have gained a lot of practical knowledge. Poland is well known to our group, as our parent company Eurohold has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2011. We are glad that, together with Aarx Energy and The Mobility House Energy, we can support the success of the investments of Polish storage owners with our vast experience and financial strength”, says Martin Georgiev, Chief Executive Officer of Electrohold Trade.

Flexible commercial models

The offer includes merchant models, guaranteed minimum revenues with a share in additional profits, partial or full tolling, day ahead swaps and hybrid solutions, secured by Electrohold Trade and other leading credit support parties. All models can be combined with existing capacity market contracts. Owners decide on the relation between market exposure and revenue predictability that best suits their financing needs and their approach to risk.

About Aarx Energy

Aarx Energy is an independent, licensed energy trading company based in Warsaw, specialising in the commercialisation and optimisation of renewable energy and battery storage assets in Poland.

The company combines direct access to wholesale energy markets with active trading, renewable energy offtake and Balancing Responsible Party (BRP) services.
